Brook Hill River Park

This new park will provide river access via a boat launch to the Rivanna River. The addition of this park opens 6 additional miles of river trail. This park is located in the northern section of Albemarle County right off Route 29 and old Rio Mills Road.

The project would be a step in providing water enthusiasts a 17-mile float with options for shorter trips. Brook Hill River Park is part of the Rivanna Blueway, which when completed, will extend from the Park to the future Buck Island Creek Park.

Project scope: Boat launch, parking and riverside amenities.

Benefits: Area of the County with many people but few parks; terminus for both the Rivanna River Blueway and the Rivanna River Greenway.

Important to Note: Longtime, unfunded priority. The road area is fairly flat, limited parking, asphalt in poor condition. The area going down to the river is steep and very rocky; despite this, it is currently used.

Costs: The entire project is estimated at approximately $600,000; just the boat launch/kayak slide is estimated at $275,000.
