The ACPF Board

The Albemarle County Parks Foundation (ACPF) works closely with the Parks and Recreation Department of Albemarle County to assist in bringing needed community projects to fruition. We identify and collaborate with community partners and seek to enhance the quality of life of County citizens with our work. Our Board is solely comprised of dedicated volunteers who live, work and play in Albemarle County.

Teddy Hamilton, President

Teddy Hamilton
President

Teddy has volunteered on the Albemarle County Long-Term Solid Waste Advisory Planning Committee and the Solid Waste Alternatives Advisory Committee, and is a semi-retired environmental consultant. She  worked with the County and the Central Virginia Pickleball Club to achieve the first public dedicated pickleball courts for our area. She loves hiking in the beautiful parks of Albemarle County with her dog Zander.

Elaine McCafferty, Secretary

Elaine is a partner at the Charlottesville office of Woods Rogers Vandeventer Black. Her practice is dedicated to appellate advocacy and she serves as embedded appellate counsel for trials. She formerly clerked for the Chief Justice of the Virginia Supreme Court and served as chair of the appellate advocacy section of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys.  As a mom of two young children, Elaine spends many days exploring local parks with her kids and hiking with her husband.

Michelle Theobold, Treasurer

Michelle is the founder of MJT Accounting Services. She has been working with nonprofits in Charlottesville for more than 30 years. Michelle enjoys volunteering when ever she gets the chance in our community, and joined the board to lend her accounting skills to the organization. Michelle likes working with the other Board members to  improve the community with implementation of each project.

Peter Krebs, At-Large Director

Peter Krebs

Peter Krebs is a planner and organizer at the Piedmont Environmental Council. His work focuses on healthy, livable communities, well-connected for walking, biking and everyday access to the outdoors. He has a background in communications, sports marketing and the arts, and has worked in numerous local and Federal agencies. 

Don Long, At-Large Director

Don Long

Don is a partner at the law firm Flora Pettit in Charlottesville, VA where he concentrates his practice in banking, commercial lending and securities transactions.  Throughout his career he has advised businesses in a variety of business transactions including organizational and operational issues. Don is the Chair of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority and the Albemarle County Economic Development Authority.  He is also the Board President for the Virginia Soccer Alliance, Inc.. Don lives in Crozet with his wife Valerie.  Don has spent many hours in Albemarle County parks running, hiking, and playing and coaching soccer.

Bill Mechnick

Bill is a Professional Landscape Architect with over 30 years of experience with master planning and construction of public places, park systems,  trails, and destination environments. His work is focused on the intersection of community planning, economic development, quality of place, and conservation. He is passionate about recreation improvements which are focused on alignment with the National Recreation and Park Association's 3 pillars (or goals) and promotes a 4th pillar, economic development. Bill is focused on advancing parks and recreation in Albemarle County to serve these goals. Bill also serves on Albemarle County's Economic Development Board and spends his free time gardening, hunting, fishing, hiking, and traveling.

Alex Boone

Alex Boone is an attorney with Royer Caramanis where he handles a wide variety of matters including commercial litigation, real estate litigation, business law, and has represented various healthcare providers in disciplinary actions and malpractice lawsuits. Alex and his family frequent the hiking trails and waterways of Albemarle County and the greater Piedmont region.
