What We Do

The ACPF:

Helps Albemarle County Parks and Recreation Department (ACPR) enhance public park lands and recreational facilities by improving efficiency, expediting projects, and introducing new programs. The Albemarle County Parks and Recreation Department receives only 1% of the County's annual budget. Fees gained by the Department's classes, programs and fees go directly into the County's general fund as revenue. For FY2025, the department budget is $5,128,531, which provides primarily for the maintenance of existing facilities and park lands.  The Foundation therefore works to supplement the Department's capacity to fund recreational initiatives. We accomplish this by:

  • Improving visitor experiences and recreational potential at ACPR facilities and lands by acquiring in-kind contributions and support services.

  • Increasing public knowledge of the resources offered to the community through ACPR.

  • Acknowledging and celebrating excellent performance and contributions by ACPR staff and citizen-volunteers in the community.

  • Building community relationships and securing external resources to support projects.

  • Protecting and preserving the environment and its resources.
